Grape Chutney

This grape chutney is great if you don’t feel like eating raw grapes or they are not sweet enough. It is great with cheese and crackers. This version contains lots of alcohol, but you can substitute it for water, orange or grape juice.


  • 2 boxes of grape, washed and cut half
  • 1 tbs. olive oil
  • 3 shallots, chopped
  • 1/3 cup bourbon or other whiskey
  • 1/4 cup fruit vinegar, cranberry or apple or something similar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 bay leaf, or 2 smaller
  • 1/3 cup sweet red wine

Heat the olive oil and fry the onion gently, until it’s very fragrant and soft. Add the grapes and turn the heat up, add all the other ingredients and stir it well. Let it boil, then turn the heat down, cover it and let it simmer for 40-50 minutes, until the grapes started to get mushy. Use a potato masher to have a better consistency. Fill it into clean jars, turn them upside down and let them cool. Once it cooled down completely, serve it on cheese crackers, with cheese.
