How do we work?

We are here
We prepare the baskets
at the facilities of the church Zout der Aarde. The baskets are distributed every thursday afternoon to the pick-up points. You can pick up your basket at the pickup point you choose during the order process. Each pick-up point has its own opening time frame.
Check on the interactive map for locations and times. We distribute in Den Haag, Rijswijk, Voorburg, Scheveningen and Leiden.
We are a team
of enthousiast individuals. We strive to fight food waste by giving a second chance to lost produce.
We think that healthy food should be available to everybody, regardless the financial situation. This is why, since Eco & Co exists, the basket price remains the same: only 12€ for 5kg. We are proud to share our left overs with the members of the church Zout der Aarde, in one of the poorest neighbourhood of The Hague.
We got news for you

Poulet Colombo
This French-Guianese chicken stew needs lots of ingredients but it worth the hassle! This creamy, spicy, aromatic dish is great for big family events. It needs a special spice mixture called Colombo spice mix, but you can make your own and if you prepare a big batch in advance, [...]
Spicy roasted pumpkin soup
I have to admit, I didn't particularly like pumpkin until once I mistakenly took pumpkin soup at a dinner. Since it was already on my plate, it would have been rude to refuse to eat it so I tried it. Fortunately, the chef was generous with spices and I [...]
Chicken Caesar salad
This is one of my favourite salads, I prepare it very often - sometimes with chicken, sometimes with king prawn, and sometimes without any meat. It has a lovely taste and I love the mixture of the different structures. This is the best recipe if you want to eat something [...]
Pique macho
Pique macho is a famous Bolivian dish. It was born in Cochabamba, at Restaurant Miraflores. Legends says that some hungry workers entered the restaurant right before closing time, and requested "anything edible". The restaurant owner served them this dish telling that whoever eats the whole plate, that person is a [...]
Grape Chutney
This grape chutney is great if you don't feel like eating raw grapes or they are not sweet enough. It is great with cheese and crackers. This version contains lots of alcohol, but you can substitute it for water, orange or grape juice. Ingredients: 2 boxes of grape, washed [...]
Kaalilaatikko
This amazing Finnish recipe is one of my favourites during wintertime. It is such a simple yet complex dish, with so many flavours in it - I can't get enough of it. Ingredients: 1 cabbage (I used the pointed white cabbage from the box) cut into bigger squares 250g [...]
Caramelized fennel-onion pizza

Minestrone soup
Minestrone is a hearty Italian soup containing the most delicious vegetables. It is cooked differently in every household because its original purpose was to use the leftover vegetables. It contains pasta, and beans as well for proteins. I really like it because it's easy to prepare and I can [...]

Caramel-apple upside down cake
If you don't have much time until the guests arrive, I can recommend this tarte tatin-like upside-down cake. The somewhat sour apple and the sweet caramel is always a good pairing. If I were you, I'd serve it with vanilla ice cream. Ingredients: 4 eggs 8 tbsp. sugar 5 [...]
Gobi Manchurian (Manchurian cauliflower)
Gobi Manchurian is an Indian Chinese fried cauliflower dish and my first attempt to convince my husband that cauliflower can be tasty. It seemed to be a mission impossible, but I'm glad to say that he likes it! From now on, it won't be only a staple of the [...]
Chocolate and orange pulp cookies
I was always struggling, what to do with the pulp after cold-pressing the fruits. I felt it's such a waste to simply throw it out to the compost. So I did some research and I was happy to see that I can still use it instead of throwing it [...]

Indesit, it’s indecent!
Do you know the Indesit brand? If so, it means that, like me, you belong at best to the middle class. We have an Indesit washing machine. For five years. It’s not long five years for a washing machine, is it? Well, for corporations, it’s probably as long as [...]
Alternative to conventional laundry detergent
I've been doing my own laundry powder for 3 years now and I have to say that I'm very satisfied with it. It washes as well as industrial detergents and is much environment friendly! In the early days, I used to do my liquid laundry detergent but it takes [...]
Comparing (eco)toxicity of commercial and home-made laundry detergents
I have worked as a research chemist for many years in a water treatment company. The knowledge I acquired during that period of my life allows me to be appalled when I read the chemical composition of some commercial or industrial products. The thing is, alternatives do exist. The [...]
Synthetic sponges are toxic. Opt for a bio and effective alternative: The Loofah.
Did you know that your go-to sponge is stuffed with toxic and eco-toxic chemicals? Up to a few days ago, I didn’t know either. In this post, I will detail how this is. I even made a little experiment of my own... results are quite scary... Then I will present [...]
Winter is coming? Keep calm and breathe!
Winter is approaching and with it, colds and blocked noses, sore throats and coughs. Last year, I tested a homemade recipe of a crème that is very similar to Vicks VapoRub ointment. I easily found all the ingredients in The Netherlands and of course I privileged organic ingredients. [...]
